Role Description

As a Back End Developer at NOVA CREATE HUB, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining server-side logic and APIs that power mission-critical business systems. You will collaborate with front-end developers, data engineers, solutions architect, DevOps and product teams to integrate user-facing elements with server-side functionality, optimize application performance, and ensure security and reliability. Daily activities include building new backend services, reviewing peer code, troubleshooting issues, writing tests, and contributing to architectural decisions and documentation. This is a full-time, on-site/remote role based in the Greater Accra Region, Ghana, Adjiringanor requiring close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver scalable and maintainable solutions.

Technical Requirements

• Python: Strong proficiency, with hands-on experience building production-grade backend systems
• Backend frameworks: Django and FastAPI for developing RESTful APIs and backend services
• Java and Spring Boot: A plus rather than a requirement
• Microservices: Service-to-service communication, API design, and distributed systems
• Event-driven architecture: Asynchronous communication patterns and how events move through a system
• Apache Kafka: Producers, consumers, topics, partitions, consumer groups, and event-based integration
• Redis: Caching, session management, queues, and other high-performance data access
• APIs: Designing and consuming REST, with versioning, authentication, authorisation, and error handling
• Databases: Relational and NoSQL, plus database design
• Docker: Containerising and deploying backend services
• Software engineering: Clean code, design patterns, Git-based development, testing, debugging, and code reviews
• Other Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience in backend software development, with the ability to design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and production-ready applications
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented programming (OOP), data structures, algorithms, and clean coding practices
• Practical experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs, with a sound understanding of authentication, authorisation, API security, and service integration
• Familiarity with microservices architecture, distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and event-driven application design
• Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including data modelling, query optimisation, and database performance management
• Understanding of caching, message brokers, containerisation, and modern backend deployment practices
• Familiarity with front-end technologies, particularly React, to facilitate effective API integration and collaboration with front-end development teams
• Experience with version control, automated testing, debugging, code reviews, and collaborative software development workflows
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical challenges
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, communicate technical concepts clearly, and contribute to architectural discussions and technical documentation
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable professional experience
